Typographical Installation

On Wednesday we began our project on typographical installation. As a beginner activity we made a symbol or character using only a matchbox, match sticks and masking tape. This taught us how to use simple objects to create a low tech typographical installation around the space.

Afterwards we split into groups to create a typographical installation in response to the space, using just cardboard, tape and whatever we could find lying around. We chose the word ‘space’ as the shop is now just an empty space. We chose a corner of the shop to create our installation, using a hanging wire to create an ‘s’, a pole to create a ‘p’, cardboard boxes to create an ‘a’ and a ‘c’ and stones lying around to create an ‘e’. This exercise was good as it helped us to get to know the space better, as well as see how we can use simple objects to create words.
